Kent ISD event canceled - Some notes about that.

Per the event's website: Due to lack of registrations this event has been cancelled.  Any one who registered will be offered a full refund including processing fees or a free entry to both the Zeeland Criterium and the MSG Time Trial.

One thing to note about online registration: it's easy to wait until the last minute to register for an event. Unforntunately, this puts a lot of stress on already-stressed-out promoters of races who need to know that they're going to have competitors show up for their race.
If you know you're going to race an event, please don't wait to register.
We know that a lot of non-cycling things influence your decision to race a given event (work, family, health, TV schedule). We just ask that you consider committing further in advance.

Clinics and Training Series

It's great to finally be getting some race miles in!
Just want to encourage you all - old and new riders alike - to take advantage of the various clinics and training series that are happening on both sides of the state.
There's lots being done to improve the racing experience and safety for all categories. Please tune into the MBRA Facebook page for information on upcoming training opportunities.

Memorial for Jeff Surnow

Hello Michigan Bicycle Racing Community,

It was with deep sadness that we learned last week that Jeff Surnow was killed while cycling in Hawaii. Jeff was the driving force behind the Birmingham Bike Festival and a member of the Wolverine Sports Club. I had the pleasure of working with Jeff for the past 3 summers at his event; he was an amazing race director who always had a huge smile on his face.

The MBRA, Wolverine Sports Club and USA Cycling would like to have a tree($1,500), bench with plaque($1,500) and drinking fountain($6,000) installed in Barnum park in Birmingham which is near where Jeff used to ride. We are hoping that the cycling community will come together and support this project. Any additional funds generated will be donated to Wish-A-Mile a charity that Jeff was passionate about.

Please take a moment and consider donating.

Funds can be sent through PayPal,  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  or by mailing a check to the MBRA Memorial Fund, 395 Whitewater, Milford, MI 48381

Jeff Surnow

March 2nd: The Michigan cycling community is stunned and saddened today by the tragic loss of Jeff Surnow. He was fatally struck by a motorist while riding on the Island of Hawaii on Sunday morning.
A member of the Wolverine Sports Club, Jeff was the driving force behind the Birmingham Bike Festival. He was big supporter of the Club, Michigan cycling, and was a popular fixture on many of the Birmingham rides.

Our most sincere sympathies go to his wife and his family.

2015

As we ring in the New Year, we'd like to take a minute to thank the race promoters/sponsors/volunteers who made our racing a reality in 2014. Without their hard work and dedication, we would have no place to race. We look forward to their offerings in 2015.

We would also like to thank the many teams/clubs/racers who make this community special. We have a great racing scene here on the peninsulas, we're developing a lot of young, talented riders, and we have a robust schedule of events.

Let us also thank the non-racing family members who support our rigorous and demanding hobby. We enjoy having them at the races!

Happy New Year from the entire MBRA Board. We have good things in the works for 2015!

Category Combinations

Race promoters - the people who give up their own life for a month or so to help create races - will be meeting this weekend to discuss the 2015 season. Your input is valuable. Please take this short survey to help us lay out the 2015 season.

The Mt. Pleasant Agenda

The agenda for the meeting in Mt. Pleasant (Decembrrr 7th) is still being bandied about. Your input is welcome. If there's a topic you want discussed, please add it to the question found HERE

NOTE TO RACE PROMOTERS (and anyone wishing to become one): please please please submit your planned/proposed race dates to Adrian long BEFORE the meeting so that she can compile the tentative schedule that will be definitely be on the agenda.

That was 3 pleases.

The format for the meeting is also being discussed, but your input isn't necessary as it will only confuse matters. But if you have DeLaurentis-esque ideas, send them to Adrian. She'd love to hear them.
